CPSC – Jo-Ann Stores To Pay Civil Penalty

Comments Off

Jo-Ann Stores Inc. has agreed to pay a $50,000 civil penalty for allegedly importing and selling children’s products that violated the federal lead paint ban, announced the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The settlement (pdf), which has been provisionally accepted by the agency, resolves allegations that the company knowingly imported and sold Robbie Duckie toys that contained excessive lead paint.

To see a list of the items and corresponding photos of the items involved, please refer to the CPSC News Release.

Jo-Ann Stores denies the Commission’s allegations that it violated federal law.

In the past year, the Commission has announced that companies including Mattel, OKK Trading, Target Corp., Schylling Associates Inc., RC2 Corp. and Excelligence Learning Corp. had agreed to pay penalties for violating the lead paint ban.
