The first “presumptive” positive test for salmonella came back to Metz on Friday last week, which is when the company was able to disengage over 90% of the 8,000 cases of spinach in transit by placing “holds” on the company’s product. The company discovered a confirmed positive test on Tuesday.
The FDA is working to discover where remaining tainted spinach might have been directed in order to facilitate the recall. Salmonella is a very serious food-borne illness that can have life-threatening consequences in certain populations.
The Metz Fresh spinach under consideration was shipped in 10oz and 16oz. bags, as well as 4-2.5lb and 4lb cartons. The only product affected is product labeled with the tracking codes 12208114, 12208214, and 12208314.
