Melamine found in animal feed production plants.

A voluntary recall of animal feed from a Colorado and Ohio manufacturer went into place today because melamine was found in the ingredients.

Melamine is an industrial compound used in the production of plastic. Melamine has been blamed for the recent recall of pet food due to numerous pet deaths.

The Associated Press reports that “the announcement by the Food and Drug Administration was the first indication that a U.S. company had used melamine as an animal feed ingredient. Agency officials said that melamine and related compounds were used to bind feed for cattle, sheep and goats, or fish and shrimp.”
